Students in gem-mining regions have rare chances to learn about the wide range of careers they could pursue after school. In remote areas, even their day to day interactions would only bring them small glimpses into possible lines of work. The Career Fair brings those opportunities directly to them, helping students understand what paths exist and how to prepare for them.
Each year, Gem Legacy brings together young professionals to help students explore careers, ask questions about themselves and their skills and abilities, and learn what paths are possible — from mining and gem faceting to teaching, healthcare, mechanics, tourism, tailoring, and more.
This annual event gives students something they may not have ever had before: a day devoted entirely to imagining their future.
For many students, the Career Fair is the moment everything “clicks.” It’s the first time they can clearly see how education connects to real careers — and how completing secondary school or continuing on to vocational training or college could dramatically increase their earning power. In a country where only 2% of students go on to college, this single day becomes one of the strongest tools we have to change that statistic. The Career Fair shows students what’s attainable, not in theory, but through real people working in real jobs. When students understand that education can lead to higher income and long-term stability, they begin imagining futures they never knew existed.
The Career Fair widens student’s perspectives by helping them:
It is often the first time students learn that their talents and interests could lead to long-term, stable, fulfilling careers that support their families.
The Career Fair has already sparked major changes in how students think about their education and careers. It complements Gem Legacy’s scholarship programs by helping students understand:
Interest in continuing education rises after each Career Fair, from Primary Students who hear about it from their older siblings and Secondary School students who will be eligible to attend in the next year or two and can’t wait their turn.
For communities where opportunity has historically been limited, exposure is powerful — and it changes what students believe is possible.
A better future starts with a single act of kindness. When you give, you help miners work safely, help students stay in school, and help families build stronger, more stable futures. Stand with the people at the heart of gem mining—your gift can change what’s possible.
